Shift in Focus
After the cat idea flopped in studio, I went back to the drawing board. Here’s the quick brainstorm/mindmap-of-sorts that resulted when I asked myself “what do I like in Taiwan?”
What I settled on was drinking tea with the monks of Vandana Monastery on the eastern coast of Taiwan.
Cat Narrative
Subject: a kitten in the back-alleys of the tourist town, Jiufen, on the northern coast of Taiwan.
Story: i met a really friendly kitten a number of years ago and feel it has enough of a personality and is off-the-beaten-path enough to deserve attention.
Difficulty: creating a compelling narrative.
Inspiration: Pablo Neruda’s poem “Cat’s Dream”, Murakami’s novel Kafka on the Shore, several haikus by Kobayashi Issa, and Neil Gaiman’s story “A Dream of a Thousand Cats”.
Next Steps: Storyboard & style frames.
